Uncle Don's Theater

Uncle Don's Theater ran in Rockford, Illinois on WQRF Channel 39 from the 1980s to the mid 1990s. It was hosted by Uncle Don, who was joined by a stuffed shark named Sharkie. The show was also titled Uncle Don's Terror Theater at some point.

How did I not see you posted this!!! Uncle Don's Terror Theater (and then Uncle Don's Theater) was the show I grew up watching! Matt Swan was the best and it's tragic no one knows of this show!!!

I totally watched this too when I was a kid. My recollection is hazy since I was so young, but Uncle Don is not to be entirely forgotten. I'm glad someone has managed to preserve at least a little bit of his show.

What is Uncle Don's real name?

I wrote him a fan letter and he read it on the air and sent me a postcard. He used to show the greatest movies. Well, not great in the conventional sense...

As I write this, I am transfering, to DVD, Uncle Don's double feature presentation of Frankenstein and Bride Of Frankenstein from my sony betamax! Commercials and all! Not sure which commercial I enjoyed the best, the all NEW 1986 Celebrity or The heart touching Dean Martin available on 2 LP's Cassettes or 8 Track Tapes.

I'm interested in a copy of that DVD...how can I get one?

Hi,

I was wondering how far along the DVD transfer you mentioned is going. *Please* post how to order if you've completed this and soon. It'd make an ideal gift for Christmas and going down memory lane will be fun!

Thanks so much,
JM

I have this transferred this to my computer hard drive and can produce DVD's from it. The transfer went well, but it is only as good as the original recorded from TV Betamax tape from 1986. It is very watchable, but it does have the occasional tracking streaks and fuzz that are unavoidable with beta tapes of this age. If anyone is interested in a copy email me at dgontjes1@gmail.com

God I miss this show. I grew up in the 70's & 80's. I remember being a kid and mom and dad would go out on Saturday night. This show was my Saturday night! I still remember the theme song. Its 10:30 10:30 half past the hour of 10. Ha I really wish that someone would release episodes of this show on DVD. I understand that if someone was to do this it would be targeted to not only a certain age group, but a location as well. So there probably wouldn't be much money to be made, but I would certainly buy it. Thank You Uncle Don (Matt Swan) you made Saturday nights as a kid fun.
