New Orleans horror host Dr. Morgus released a CD called Hearse-ry Rhymes . It contains Morgus reciting ghoulish poems with spooky background music. The poems are full of puns and morbid imagery. Many of the lines invoke smiles as you listen to Morgus enjoying the stories of werewolves, vampires, and other monstrous creatures. One of the poems is a reading of the song Morgus recorded with the Deringers called Werewolf. Here though, it is spoken and not sung. The last track on the CD is full of sound effects like the old LPs that used to be offered in the backs of monster magazines. Hearse-ry Rhymes is a fun CD to listen to at night with the lights out and gives the feeling of listening to an old radio show or a grandfather reading you some twisted nursery rhymes. In 1959 Morgus the Magnificent's House of Shock show debuted. It was so popular that by Halloween of that year Morgus released a 45 RPM record called Morgus' Experiment which featured the opening theme or the show and Morgus performing an experiment with with E.R.I.C. In 1962, New Orleans horror host Dr. Momus Alexander Morgus starred in the movie The Wacky World of Dr. Morgus . In it, Dr. Morgus invents an Instant People Machine that can transform people into sand and back to their original form. Morgus and his assistant, Chopsley, have to stop a plot by Microvanian spies to take over America. Here is the trailer, courtesy of Meet Cleaver Theatre: Though hard to come by, the movie was released on VHS on November 6, 1996 by Ivy Classics Video. So far it has not been released on DVD. Dr. Morgus was voted into the Rondo Awards Hall of Fame in 2012. Dr. Gangrene accepted the award on his behalf at the awards ceremony on May 26, 2012 at the Wonderfest convention. Watch the presentation here:
